About

When it comes to planning, every client is unique, and we recognize this by tailoring the planning process to meet your specific objectives. Our planning process is customized to meet our clients’ specific objectives, regardless of their net worth or company size.

We are a tax boutique supporting U.S. connected multinational families and their businesses. Although we are a boutique firm, we are fortunate enough to have maintained and further developed a sophisticated clientele due to our prior firm relationships, in addition to more than a decade of working directly with foreign and domestic attorneys, bankers, trustees, and accountants. Further, we are one of the only firms that we are aware of that specializes in only working with multinational families and businesses that have a U.S. connection.

While we are all attorneys licensed in the U.S., and while we only practice U.S. law, we also must coordinate our planning with practitioners from around the world, depending on where our clients live, have nationalities, or own assets. Our clients are mostly made up of international high net worth and ultra-high net worth families and their respective businesses.  Our practice areas concentrate on cross-border income, gift, and estate tax planning; preimmigration tax planning; expatriation tax planning; and U.S. tax compliance.

We represent foreign private equity funds targeting U.S. investors (and the U.S. persons investing in foreign funds); U.S. private equity funds targeting foreign investors (and the foreign persons investing in U.S. funds); foreign persons expanding their business interests or investments into the U.S.; foreign persons moving into the U.S.; U.S. persons expanding their business interests or investments outside the U.S.; U.S. persons moving outside the U.S. We also structure our clients’ estates and holdings in tax efficient manners (including modifying or drafting related client estate plans, restructuring of entities or ownership).

We generally don’t represent clients who are exclusively U.S. persons or U.S. businesses with only U.S. assets or structures. We recognize that there are many other domestically focused U.S. tax, trust and estate practitioners. Accordingly, each of our clients has some sort of cross-border component with a U.S. connection, and we have developed our specializations to support these multinational families and businesses in their cross-border income tax, gift, estate, and trust planning.

Our clients have included members of foreign governments; royal families; investment bankers; fund managers; foreign and domestic private equity funds; real estate developers; international hoteliers and insurance companies; renown designers and athletes; trust companies; family offices; entrepreneurs; wealthy families and other professionals.

One of the challenges of cross-border planning is navigating through complex laws and treaties, which can be overwhelming for many clients. To better serve those seeking assistance, we have established relationships with practitioners worldwide. These relationships allow us to tap into a global network of experts and resources to help clients navigate the intricacies of cross-border planning. Often, we act as a form of general counsel to our clients, and due to the strength of our network of foreign colleagues (those who provide similar services to international clients but with a connection to their local jurisdiction), our clients often rely on our referrals or have us retain all relevant foreign attorneys or advisors on their behalf to streamline the planning and structuring process.

Additionally, we participate in international conferences and organizations, often presenting and publishing on relevant topics, which helps to stay current with the latest trends and developments in the field.

Whether you or your firm require assistance with a single project or are looking for an ongoing advisory relationship, our firm can assist you with your cross-border income, estate and gift tax planning, pre-immigration and expatriation matters, or U.S. compliance matters.

Cross-border planning can be complicated, but it can also be made smoother when working together with experienced practitioners.
